For eight days starting on Friday, Sept. 22, the California Cable Car Line will be served by buses during crucial maintenance work to preserve the cable car system. The California Line is the first cable car line segment that will need to be shut down while we rehabilitate the five cable gearboxes in the Cable Car Barn and Powerhouse. These gearboxes have been in service since 1984, and they each need a thorough overhaul to keep San Francisco’s world-famous cable cars running safely and reliably. Here’s the approximate schedule for bus substitutions on all cable car line segments: Sept. 22 - 29: California Line Spring 2018: Powell Line (Powell Street portion of the Mason and Hyde lines) Fall 2018: Mason Line (Mason Street, Columbus Avenue and Taylor Street) Spring or Fall 2019: All cabl...
A ride on the historic San Francisco Cable Car, running on California Street. It was New Year's Eve, and due to forecasted rush for Bay Bridge Fireworks and associated traffic predictions, all Cable Cars were notified to end the New Year's Eve at 1730 Hrs. This was the last ride for the day, and the more than courteous Cable Car driver was more than happy to accommodate everyone on the last square inch of available space in the Tram, as well as along the sides on the foot rails. All in all, an amazing experience. Kudos to SF City Office and Railways Department for preserving this vintage, yet classy and characteristic mode of Transportation, over many other modern means of transport available these days.

Some television viewers in southern California were startled when an apocalyptic emergency alert flashed on their screens. The Orange County Register reports a Lake Forest woman says she was watching HGTV on her Cox Communications cable service on Thursday when the alert flashed across the screen. Video shows the message included the voice of a man warning that "in the last days extremely violent time will come." The newspaper says Spectrum cable customers also got the message.

The Cable Car in San Francisco has become a real Tourist Attraction, with long queues and high prices. If you want to avoid the long waiting lines, take the California Line which is less crowded. It brings you nowhere, but just for a Cable Car ride, climbing California Street is spectacular.

In this San Francisco travel video guide, I travel to San Francisco, California, one of the most scenic cities in the United States, if not the world. In town for a conference for only four days, only one of which was going to be sunny, I headed out to see as much as I could in a day. I started my day by visiting the Haight-Ashbury district, San Francisco's most famous neighborhood. Ground zero for the Summer of Love, this neighborhood's bohemian past is still evident as you walk around the area, though things have changed quite a bit. Next I headed to the Mission District, San Francisco's "It" neighborhood right now. Home to a large and varied immigrant population, cheap rents have lured many a young and hip individual to the area, evidenced by the artisanal chocolate shops, used book s...

A complete journey on the scenic Powell-Hyde cable car line in San Francisco, filmed from the front of the running board. Starting at the Powell Street turnaround at Market St the cable car travels through the heart of the city as it climbs and descends Nob Hill and Russian Hill on its way to Fisherman's Wharf. Highlights include passing Union Square, the crooked Lombard Street and a great view of Alcatraz in the Bay with the sound of a fun and vocal crowd onboard. For purity I have not edited out the stops, but you can skip the longer stops if you like. If you like it please subscribe to my channel.

This is Gabe and I summiting Half Dome in Yosemite National Park on June 3, 2013 via the cables route. We began the hike at 7:25am from the Upper Pines campground and hiked to Half Dome via the Mist Trail to John Muir trail. Went from start to summit in about 4 hours 39 minutes. It was an ideal day to summit, about 80 degrees, windless and perfectly clear. I shot this on my GoProHD2 wearing a head-mount. Sound is somewhat muffled as I left the waterproof backing on from the previous days Merced river raft outing - oops. If you see yourself on the cables please comment. Actual cable ascent begins at 3:30.
